FACTS ON TAP
With primary funding from the Metropolitan Life Foundation, the Scaife Family Foundation, and the Hearst Foundation, Phoenix House and its affiliates, the Children of Alcoholics Foundation (COAF) and the American Council for Drug Education (ACDE), launched its national campus initiative, Facts on Tap in October of 1998. Now with over 800 colleges participating in the program, Facts on Tap is one of the country's most versatile and innovative prevention strategies.
The program, with its materials, training, and technical support, is designed to enhance campus-based alcohol and other drug prevention efforts. Whether infused into an existing prevention program or acting as a foundation for a new effort, Facts on Tap allows prevention professionals to have the tools they need to reach all students and the professionals that work with them
Facts on Tap
is the first college alcohol
education, prevention, and intervention program of its kind to address three
risk levels of drinking on university campuses, including materials for Children
of Alcoholics on campus. At each level, hard-hitting, frank, and informative
materials provide the tools to reach the identified populations.
Risk Level 1 - The general student population with no
special or identified risks.
Our popular Awareness Mini-magazine Series for this population includes
The College Experience?: Alcohol and Student Life
A Risky Relationship: Alcohol and Sex
The Naked Truth: Alcohol and the Body
The Non-Alcoholic Hangover: When Someone Else's Drinking Gives YOU a Headache
The Road Trip: Alcohol, Drugs, and Commuter Life
The Drug Deal: Drugs and Your College Experience
Risk
Level 2 - Students at greater risk for addiction because they are children of
alcoholic or substance abusing parents.
The only
program available that addresses the one in four college students who are
children of alcoholic or substance abusing parents. To help these students we
provide the six workshop "Options Training Curriculum" (with a supplemental
piece on how to start, run, and evaluate a support group on your campus), the
informational "Do You Ever . . .?" Brochures, the in-depth "Life Lessons"
Handbooks, and the versatile "Going Home?" Wallet Cards
Risk Level 3 - Students who already have a problem with
alcohol or other drugs
Sometimes students don't feel comfortable going to their campus health center
for help if they have a problem with drugs and alcohol. Sometimes they prefer a
more anonymous resource. Our Drughelp services are a confidential way to get
help, referral information, and locate resources. We provide attractive Posters
and Stickers with our
www.drughelp.org website info.
Free Training and Technical Assistance
For any college that purchases Facts on Tap, ACDE and COAF staff provide
free technical assistance and training in order to best integrate the program
onto your campus. College prevention professionals and staff can attend one of
the
free trainings
we offer for program participants in the Spring and Summer of every year. Our
staff is also available for specific technical assistance questions.
