SOCIAL WORK

People are empowered to change their lives and contribute to creating stronger communities

Low income & underemployment are widespread in the villages of Armenia. Social problems, such as poverty, domestic violence, discrimination have also high prevalence. Access to social protection is very limited, making the rural population vulnerable and neglected. In addition, small communities are often self-absorbed and stereotypes and discrimination are commonly observed there. COAF hires and trains local social workers who manage cases both at an individual & a systemic level to work inclusively with the person, the family & the community. COAF social workers go beyond helping people with the basic needs into addressing underlying issues that prevent social change. Their work includes case management and preventive activities through education & awareness raising. Since 2006, around 170 new cases annually are identified and 20% of all cases are resolved and closed in one year.
